EMDR Therapy in Arlington, MA

For capable adults whose past still runs the present.

EMDR Therapy

You understand where it comes from. You may have talked it through for years. And the reaction still fires before you can choose otherwise. EMDR works where that reaction is stored, so it can finally settle.

This may be you if

  • A memory still replays, years later, with the same sting

  • Small things set off reactions you know are too big

  • You stay a little braced, even when everything is fine

  • Old patterns show up near every finish line, or in every close relationship

  • You feel like a different person around your family

  • You've done real work in therapy, and insight hasn't changed how it feels

Most of the people I work with are high-functioning. From the outside, things look fine. That is often why the underlying material goes untouched for so long.

What the work looks like

Steadiness first. Early sessions build grounding, so you can stay present with whatever comes up.

Then a target, chosen together. A specific memory, the belief attached to it, and where you feel it in your body. You are the expert on your own history. I bring the clinical structure that helps us find the right place to work.

Then reprocessing. Short sets of bilateral stimulation, usually side-to-side eye movements, while you notice what arises. You stay awake and in control, and you don't have to retell your story in detail.

What changes isn't the facts. It's the charge. The memory stops pulling you back in, and the belief underneath it tends to loosen on its own. I integrate EMDR with parts work and depth-oriented therapy, so understanding still has a place in the room.

What EMDR is

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based treatment for experiences that were too much to process at the time. Those experiences get stored as if they are still happening, which is why they keep shaping the present. EMDR helps your brain finish processing them, so they are held as the past.

You don't need a single dramatic event. Many of my clients are working with quieter, repeated experiences from childhood: approval that had to be earned, a household where you kept the peace, years of being the capable one.

Fees and insurance

$275 per session. Some clients choose to meet twice a week, which can help the work move faster. Longer sessions and weekend intensives are also available by request.

I am an out-of-network provider and provide superbills each month. Many PPO plans reimburse part of the cost. To check yours, call the number on your insurance card and ask: "What is my out-of-network reimbursement for outpatient psychotherapy, CPT code 90837?"

Sessions take place at 226 Massachusetts Avenue, Suite 3, Arlington, MA: a quiet, private office with natural light, a short drive from Cambridge, Somerville, Medford, Lexington, Winchester, and Belmont.

Telehealth EMDR is available anywhere in Massachusetts and Washington.

Questions about starting

Is EMDR worth the investment if I've already done a lot of therapy?

1

Often, yes. People who already understand their patterns tend to be well prepared for EMDR, because the work goes straight to the experiences that insight hasn't reached. We'll talk honestly in the consultation about whether it fits what you're carrying.

Do you offer EMDR more than once a week?

2

Yes. Twice-weekly sessions can build momentum, especially early on. We decide on a rhythm together based on your goals and what feels sustainable.

Can I use my insurance?

3

I don't bill insurance directly. I provide a monthly superbill you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement, which many PPO plans offer.

Is EMDR better in person?

4

Both formats work. In person allows the full range of bilateral stimulation, and many people find the separate, quiet space helps them settle into the work.
