My office is located at 226 Massachusetts Avenue in Arlington, Massachusetts. The building is handicap accessible.
Before your first in-person appointment, you will receive an email with detailed instructions for finding my office, including where to park and how to reach the suite once you arrive. My aim is for you to walk in feeling oriented rather than searching, so everything you need will be waiting in your inbox ahead of time.
For telehealth sessions, there is nowhere to travel. You will receive a secure link to join from wherever you are most comfortable.

Yes, both. I offer in-person sessions at my Arlington office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and virtual telehealth sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays. Telehealth is also available on in-person days if that works better for your schedule.
In-person sessions are held at 226 Massachusetts Avenue, Suite 3, in Arlington. Telehealth sessions take place over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, and I am able to see clients located anywhere in Massachusetts or Washington, where I am licensed.
My hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm Eastern, with a midday break, Monday through Friday. For Washington clients, that is 6:00am to 2:00pm Pacific.
My schedule tends to fill in advance, so reaching out early gives us the best chance of finding a time that works for you.

Yes, if you have out-of-network (OON) benefits through a PPO plan.
Mastrangelo Counseling is private-pay and does not bill insurance directly. Instead, I provide a superbill, an itemized receipt you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement under your out-of-network benefits. A service like Thrizer can also handle this for you and advance the reimbursement so you are not waiting on a check.
To find out what you can expect back, call the member services number on the back of your card and ask:
Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits, and have I met my deductible?
What percentage do you reimburse, and what is the allowed amount for the relevant CPT code?
Reimbursement is based on the lesser of my fee or your plan's allowed amount, paid out at your coinsurance percentage once your deductible is met. Many strong PPO plans reimburse a substantial portion of the full session fee.
One thing to know before you decide: submitting a superbill requires a mental health diagnosis, which becomes part of your insurance record. I am always glad to talk this through with you.

Our first session is an intake, which means it is mostly about me getting to know you. We start with what brought you here and what made this the moment to reach out, then widen to your history, relationships, work, and the patterns you've noticed over time. We also spend time on what you're hoping for: what would feel different if this work went well?
You don't need to prepare anything or have your thoughts neatly organized. Come as you are, and know that you're in control of the pace. My aim is for you to leave with a clearer sense of how we might work together.

Telehealth sessions are conducted via a HIPAA-compliant video platform. You join from a private location of your choosing, typically your home or office. Many clients prefer telehealth because it removes commute time and fits therapy into a full life, and the research is clear that telehealth therapy, conducted well, is comparable to in-person work for most concerns. If you'd rather be in the room, in-person sessions are available at my Arlington office.

Yes. I am EMDR trained through EMDRIA and use it with clients working on trauma, anxiety, and the stubborn patterns that persist even after you understand where they came from. EMDR works with how difficult experiences are stored in the brain and body rather than relying on talking alone, which is why it often moves things that years of insight haven't. I offer EMDR in person at my Arlington office, where tactile and other forms of bilateral stimulation are available, as well as via telehealth. If you're curious whether EMDR fits what you're working on, it's a great question to bring to a consultation call.

I ask for at least 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Appointments cancelled with less notice, or missed without notice, are charged the full session fee.
When we schedule a session, that time is held exclusively for you, and I prepare for it in advance. The 48-hour window gives me a real chance to offer the time to another client. If you need to cancel and I have an opening later that week, you're welcome to make up the session then. Genuine emergencies happen; if something unavoidable comes up, reach out and we'll talk it through.

Email or the client portal is the best way to reach me, and I will respond within one business day. I check messages during business hours, so anything sent in the evening or over a weekend will reach me on the next business day.
Please know that I am not a crisis or emergency service and am not available for urgent needs outside of our scheduled time. Between sessions, I am best reached for brief, practical matters such as scheduling, rather than for clinical support that is better held within our work together.
If you are experiencing an emergency or a mental health crisis, please do not wait for a reply. Call 911, go to your nearest emergency room, or call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, which is available 24/7. Your safety matters, and these resources can help you right away.

It depends entirely on what you're working on and what you’re looking for. EMDR for a specific traumatic event may take 8–15 sessions. Couples therapy for a recurring pattern may take 12 months. Therapy for complex trauma, family-of-origin work, or longstanding patterns may take longer. Ultimately, how long we work together is shaped by your goals and your sense of what's still worth exploring.

Schedule a free 15-minute consultation call using the button below. We talk briefly about what brings you to therapy, you ask any questions you have, and we decide together whether we're a good fit. If we are, we schedule a first session. If we're not, I'll help you find someone who is.
